Renovated church hall.

On 6th October the renovated church hall at St James Church, Thornton will be officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Abid Hussain, along with a number of the invited guests from user groups.

The hall is now open for business following extensive works undertaken during the summer months, which included.

  • Repairs to both the main and flat roofs
  • Replacement of the heating system
  • Re plastering of the ceilings in He-Brews and entrance lobby
  • Treating and polishing of the parquet flooring in the main hall
  • Installation of anti-slip floor coverings to both entrances.

The newly refurbished church hall and Hebrews Café provide a meeting place for a number of groups from the village, these include, Toddlers group, Brownies, Slimming World, Monthly fellowship, Film nights, monthly book-sale;  meetings and private party groups...

These works were funded by a £38,808 grant from WREN’S  FCC Community Action Fund.

Rev. Harry Gwinnett, church leader of Thornton Parish Church is delighted that the hall is now back in use.  He says “This vital facility will make a real difference to the local community”.  The project was completed just in time for all the Christmas activities and the very popular St James, Christmas Tree Festival.  We are extremely grateful to WREN for providing funding as we would not have been able to complete this work without their support.”

WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, conservation and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Penny Horne, WREN’s grant manager for Yorkshire, says: “It’s wonderful to see something we have funded finally open and ready to make such a difference to communities within the Thornton area of Bradford. WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”
